The Quyon Library invited local residents to celebrate two decades of operations in the town with a special book sale and . . .

community gathering on Saturday morning.

According to Glenda Nitschke, who’s been in charge of the library for the last five years, the event was a way of promoting the library to the community all while celebrating its extended existence.

“We want to make them aware that we do have a nice library and that it is not like other libraries: They come in here; we have toys for the kids, we have games, we have the Lego club, and it is like a social gathering,” she said.

In the middle of the room, folks strolled around a section of tables pushed together, where what looked like thousands of books in both French and English, donated by local residents and elementary schools, were piled up.

With a table topped with an assortment of coffee, juices and snacks, attendees were free to enjoy a few treats while seeking out the best titles available.

For Nitschke, the celebration was a very proud moment.

Having visited the local library countless times as a youngster, she feels grateful knowing that she gets to have a positive impact on the local community like the library had on her back in the day.

“To be here, and look at the books, and at the public, to choose the books and really feel part of our library, I’m really proud of it,” she said.

The funds raised from the celebration will contribute to the library’s annual Halloween haunted house event, a Christmas activity and an Easter egg hunt, Nitschke said.

The library held a used books sale, thanks to numerous donations from local residents and the town’s elementary schools. All the proceeds from the event will be dedicated to subsidizing the library’s upcoming activites
