QUYON Oct. 14, 2018
There’s a new spot for families and friends to gather for breakfast on Sundays, as the Quyon Legion looks to offer a classic helping of bacon and eggs through the rest of the month.
Responding to a lack of diners in town, volunteers from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 231 are stepping up to host public breakfasts every Sunday, in support of their various causes.
On the first Sunday of breakfasts, Oct. 14, Lillian Weber, Lois Weber, Trudy McKnight and Priscilla Derouin were in charge, expecting a large crowd with the day’s favourable weather, once church let out.
Lillian said the hope is to host a Sunday breakfast through the winter, with some notable exceptions, such as events like Remembrance Day taking priority. For the foreseeable future, the Legion will feature a breakfast on Oct. 21 and the following Sunday, from 9:30 a.m. till one in the afternoon.
She said the money raised will support the group’s various fundraising ventures but has no specific designation for the money. All work for the meal will be provided by the support of volunteers, just like the ladies helping the first morning.
