This past Tuesday, the Quyon Lions Club served up a delicious pancake supper at the Legion in honour of Shrove Tuesday. The pancakes came with local maple syrup, ham, sausages, baked beans, and many salads to choose from. It was a tasty treat for supper that night. It was also great to visit with friends and neighbours while enjoying the meal. A big shout-out to the Lions for hosting this fantastic community event.
Wasn’t that a party! I was at Gavan’s Hotel on Sunday afternoon for their big St. Patrick’s Day party, and it was a terrific day of Irish music and fun. Gail Gavan hosted the festivities, with her wonderful singing and stories. Gail even offered up a tribute in memory of my Aunt Mona, which was very touching. The Shamrock Lounge was a sea of green, with St. Pat’s revelers filling the room to enjoy the music of Louis Schryer, The Ryans, Lorne Daley, Virginia Schwartz and Friends, the Pauline Brown Dancers, and Gary “Stompin’ Tom” Patrois. They all kept the dance floor hopping and the toes tapping. It was a great way to kick off the St. Paddy’s Day celebrations.
This coming Saturday, the St. Pat’s fun continues, as the Quyon Pastoral Charge will be hosting the Irish Tea at the Quyon Community Centre from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Put on your green and join us for tea. Then that afternoon, the Quyon Legion will be celebrating with their annual Kitchen Party, which is always a blast. That night, Gavan’s will be featuring the band Jimmy George, with opening act Jessica Pearson & the East Wind. It will be a busy day in town with so many St. Pat’s events on, and we can’t wait.
Happy 1st birthday to Charlie Milford, as he celebrates on Mar. 12, and happy “sweet 16” to Faith Hamilton on the same day. We also have birthday wishes going out to Donna Provost, and Maddox and Zayden Alexander on the 13th, to Ellard Kennedy on the 15th, and to Ryan Woermke on the 17th. Best wishes to all.
I was sorry to hear that Idena Parent passed away on Mar. 4. Idena used to call me from time to time, and we last spoke just a few weeks ago. I always enjoyed chatting with her, she was so friendly and funny. My sympathies are going out to her loved ones.
