Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Frank Frobel who passed away on April 2 after a short battle with cancer. I have great memories of Frank from when I was a kid and he worked at Onslow Elementary School. He was always so kind to us. Deepest sympathy is with his loved ones as they grieve.
Last Thursday, the Quyon Curling league wrapped up for the season with a fun Hot Shots night. This year’s winning team included Ray Johnston, Ben Kingsbury, Dan and Nathalie Turner. The Hot Shots of the night were Dale MacKechnie for the men and Brenda Clarke for the women. The 50/50 draw was split between two lucky winners, Janice Wallace and Christine Clarke. There was also a random draw of names for numerous gift certificates which were generously donated by local businesses. We enjoyed pizza from Billy T’s and Sonia served up drinks all evening long. A big thank you to Glen Leach, Lynn Leach, and Donna Kennedy for organizing the league and giving us all an evening to look forward to each week during the long winter months. It was another great year.
The Quyon Legion hosted a Texas Hold ‘em poker tournament on Saturday, with 28 players coming out to try their luck. The day finished with Terry Hamilton in fourth place, Steve McAfee in third, Cindy Beck in second and Ricky Belland was the big winner of the day. Kudos to all involved in organizing the tournament.
The Pontiac Community Gym is making it a top priority to purchase an AED defibrillator for the gym. This is an essential piece of equipment to have as it can revive someone from sudden cardiac arrest. If anyone is interested in contributing to the purchase please contact the staff at the gym or the Quyon Family Centre for more information.
Happy birthday to Vera Meredith on April 12. We’d like to send big birthday wishes to my mom, Elizabeth Young, on April 13 with love from all of us. Birthday wishes are also going out to Jackie McBane on April 14 and to Andrea Young on April 15. Blessings to everyone celebrating this week.
As we continue to grasp for signs of a long-awaited spring, here’s a big one. The Quyon Ferry is projecting their opening date for the season to be this Friday. Please verify this by visiting their website. We will keep our fingers crossed.
