The Quyon Pastoral Charge held their final Soup and Sandwich lunch of the season last Wednesday at Quyon United, and there was another great turnout. The lunches have been a tremendous success this year and all of the support from the greater community has been very much appreciated.
Last Thursday evening, there was a Talent Café hosted by the Grade 6 class at Onslow Elementary as a fundraiser for their graduation. Many talented individuals and groups took the stage to sing and dance for the crowd, much to their delight. Well done to all involved.
It was also announced at the talent show that the Home and School Committee has received a grant for a much-needed new playground for the school which will hopefully be installed over the summer. Such exciting news for the students at Onslow.
On Saturday, I joined with many of my Lang family members at the Little Red Wagon Winery in Shawville to honour our cousin, Maya Forde-Barclay, with a bridal shower. Maya is the grand-daughter of Muriel (Lang) Forde and the daughter of Tammy Forde. We enjoyed a delicious luncheon and showering Maya with both gifts and a money tree as she prepares for her upcoming wedding. Though she was born and raised in Montreal, Maya’s valley roots run deep and she will be returning with her husband-to-be Simon Bouchard to be married here in May. We are very much looking forward to celebrating with them on their big day.
Also on Saturday, a Stag and Doe was held at the Quyon Legion in honour of Brandon MacKechnie and Meghan Morris. The Legion was packed with a wonderful turnout of family and friends there to celebrate with the happy couple. Wishing Brandon and Meghan all the best as they plan for their wedding day, coming up in June.
On Sunday, the Canada Day Committee hosted a fundraiser spaghetti supper at the Quyon Legion. Attendees enjoyed a delicious meal with all proceeds going towards the Canada Day festivities that will be held in Quyon this summer. The committee appreciates everyone’s support.
Birthday wishes are going out to Debbie Johnston on May 3 and to Caryl McCann on May 4. Happy Birthday also to my little cousin Annabelle Fleck as she turns 3 on May 7. Best wishes to everyone celebrating this week.
If you’re looking for gift ideas for Mother’s Day, be sure to head out to the Spring Craft Vendor event at Onslow School this Saturday. There will also be a breakfast served and a Scholastic book fair on site. This is the first time Onslow is hosting this event, and we wish them great success.
