On Friday, the gang at Mountainview Turf celebrated another successful season with a Christmas gathering where several big milestones were recognized. Earl Kearns was honoured for 10 years of service, while Claire Mulligan was honoured for 20 years of service. Two retirees were also . . .
honoured as Ray Johnston retired just before the pandemic hit and Rolly Bernier will also be retiring at the end of this year. It was great to finally have a chance to gather once again in a safe way and enjoy the delicious turkey dinner catered by Billy T’s. It was a terrific afternoon of celebrating.
This past Saturday, Emily McCann held her art exhibit Zena at the home of her aunt Linda McCann Gilmour this past Saturday. This show was a tribute to the strong and beautiful females in Emily’s life who have given her inspiration and encouragement. Her artwork is absolutely stunning and it was so neat to see each piece named after the women and girls in Emily’s life. Congratulations Emily.
The Quyon Pastoral Charge’s Christmas Facebook Auction came to a close on Sunday evening. It was once again a resounding success. So many folks in our community contributed items and services to be auctioned off and even more were bidding. We live in such a caring community. Congratulations to all of the lucky winners, and many thanks to all who contributed in any way. The support for our little church is so appreciated.
Deepest sympathy is extended to the Foran and O’Reilly families, as Loretta O’Reilly passed away on Nov. 24. Thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones at this sad time.
Birthday wishes are going out to Thomas Hamilton on Dec. 2, to Landyn Prest on Dec. 4 and to Owen Johnston and Dustin Young on Dec. 5. Happy Birthday to Cash Watson and Bucky Fleck on Dec. 6 and to Willow Brownlee and Tessa Young on Dec. 7. Best wishes to everyone celebrating this week.
It is so hard to believe it is December already. Our town is looking very festive right now thanks to several key people. A big thank you to Alvin Johnston, Ricky Belland and Stacy Johnston for putting up the decorations along the streets in the village and also to the homeowners and businesses along the way who provide the electricity to light them. Kudos also to Donna Kennedy and her group of volunteers as they decked the halls at the Community Centre. It looks fantastic.
The community will certainly appreciate their efforts on Dec. 11 as that is the day Santa Claus will be in town. The Lions and Lionettes are hosting the Santa Claus Parade that day at 1 p.m. The parade will leave Onslow School and end at the Community Centre where Santa will have socially-distanced visits with the children. There will be treats, hot dogs, and hot chocolate for all. COVID protocols will be followed and masks and double-vaccination will be required to enter the hall. Let’s make it a safe and fun festive day.
