I hope everyone had a great Canada Day. It was a different celebration this year because of the COVID-19 restrictions we are still under, but I was proud of . . .
our town and the Quyon Canada Day Committee for finding a way to make it work. Thank you to the committee for organizing a physically-distanced barbecue, as well as activities in the park for the children. They also raised the giant Canada flag at the pole by the Quyon Ferry and had Natasha Curley on hand to lead the singing of “O Canada”. We appreciated their efforts and look forward to a return to our big celebrations with a parade and fireworks next year!
Happy belated birthday to Anita Draper who turned 85 on July 6. Birthday wishes are going out to Paul Lang on July 8 and to Axl Orr and Everett Hamilton July 9. Happy first birthday to Paddy Dolan who is celebrating on July 11. Best wishes to everyone celebrating this week.
With Quebec now allowing places of worship to re-open, several churches in our area have opened up for services again with restrictions still in place of course. St. Mary’s Church in Quyon has re-opened for mass, while Quyon and Wesley United Churches have opted to remain on-line for the time being. Rev. Stephane Vermette, who had been with us since last September, came to the end of his ministry here at the end of June. A special thanks to Rev. Vermette for his leadership and guidance, especially as he helped us through some dark days during the pandemic.
On July 5, the congregation welcomed a new student minister, Paul Whynacht. Paul’s first service via Facebook Live was a beautiful one and well received. We are so happy to have him and look forward to the day we can gather at church again and meet him in person.
