Ottawa Heart Institute Golf Tournament at Mickey Creek Golf Club.
While organizer Amanda Yach said a couple of teams couldn’t make it, some of the golfers who were at the course decided to throw their hats into the ring.
Despite a ball tournament and the opening of bow-hunting season, Yach was still happy with the turnout.
With 15 teams, she said it was the perfect number of golfers as there was little time spent waiting between holes.
The scramble tournament kicked off with a shotgun start at noon and wrapped up around 5 p.m.
Most golfers left the course and headed to Atkinson’s Sports Bar in Shawville where they were treated to a steak dinner cooked by Debbie Fenton.
Although it was her first time organizing the tournament, Yach was extremely thankful to local businesses who stepped up with donations to make for a better experience for the more than 50 golfers on hand.
“Everybody was very generous,” Yach said.
While she had to learn the ins and outs of organizing a golf tournament on the fly, Yach was thankful for the volunteers who helped with everything from hauling barbecues to keeping an eye on the tee boxes.
“She’s done a fantastic job,” said Claudette Stanton of Yach’s hard work.
The foursome of Tim Murray, Tim Powell, Blake Barr and Todd Barber were the overall tournamnet winners.
The winner of the men’s longest drive was Linden Fraser while Angela Yach put the most distance on the ladies’ longest drive.
When it came to accuracy, nobody beat Daryl Nichiporowich and Tina Atkinson, who took home the men’s and ladies’ closest to the pin respectively.
The event brought in $3,897.80.
