THE EQUITY will be publishing a new weekly series of profiles of the Pontiac Lions Midget A players. Fans of local hockey can enjoy some insight into what gives these players the drive to come out and be the best they can be for their team at home and away. This week’s spotlight is on Tyler Stanton, who is playing his first year at the midget level.
AGE: 15
Number: 3
Stanton loves the thrill of playing hockey, especially during tense moments on the ice. There is no better feeling, according to the player, than chasing a comeback and succeeding, especially when scoring a game-winning goal in the final minutes of a game. He credits hockey with introducing him to many of his best friends, as well as learning how to communicate, work as a team, and sportsmanship. Most importantly, he has learned how to have a passion for something, so that he dedicates his time to the game and puts his heart into it.
Stanton is currently a grade 10 student at PHS and looks forward to playing with the midget team again next year. As well, he’s excited to pursue his driver’s license and purchase a vehicle. According to the coach, Stanton has the ability to stick handle his way out of tight situations on the ice. He has a quick release shot which he puts to use inside the blue line. He is easy going and often smiling but make no mistake, he is a competitive player that likes to win.
