In what has become a celebration of comradery and a love for all things cars, the Pontiac Cruisers descend weekly on Shawville’s very own Wings N Things chip stand for a car rally determined to do-good by the community.
A group of self-confessed car enthusiasts, the Pontiac Cruisers meet every Thursday from the end of May until about mid-September. Pulling up in their eye-catching, vibrant vehicles and motorcycles, the Cruisers mingle and discuss their shared passion for motorsports.
“There are the old standard cruise friends,” said Pontiac Cruisers member Len Watson. “And yet, weekly, new friends come and enjoy the comradeship and experience of others and hear vehicle restoration stories.”
“I love getting together with the group,” Watson continued. “We share a lot of repair stories or information on where to get parts. We become like a family.”
Not limited exclusively to those who live in the Pontiac, the Cruisers attract car aficionados from far-and-wide. Drivers cruise from as far away as Hull to spread their wings and indulge in the like-minded company found amongst the group.
Wanting their passion to help enrich the lives of others, the Pontiac Cruisers have made a point to give back to the community.
“Over the past few years, we have supported our local schools, seniors’ homes and, this year, we chose the food bank,” Watson said.
Organizing a 50/50 draw and soliciting non-perishable food items for Bouffe Pontiac, the Pontiac Cruisers are driving social advocacy forward in a manner all their own.
“I think it’s very important to give back to the community. Especially this year with the price of food, the food banks are struggling more than ever,” Watson said.
