Director of Financial Resources at the Western Quebec School Board, Martine Lupien, presented Onslow Elementary School with a $1000 cheque for new recreational equipment this past Monday.

A participant in the annual Grand défi Pierre Lavoie fundraising cycling event, Lupien will be representing the Western Quebec School Board this June as they bike from Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean to Montreal.

According to Lupien, the provided money was raised through a number of community fundraising events.

“The fact that I am the Director of Financial Resources with the school board means that I can see that there is not a lot of money within the schools,” said Lupien. “The cost is really high for a lot of sports equipment and the schools don’t have a lot of money for it. So for me, this was an opportunity to ensure a smaller school has the money they need for this important equipment.”
