CHALK RIVER Oct. 21, 2020
Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) is hosting a virtual open house to provide community members with information regarding the construction of the Near Surface Disposal Facility (NSDF) at their Chalk River site.
The nuclear laboratory set up an interactive . . .
website at engagewithcnl.ca/nsdf which features background information about the NSDF project and their plans for the future.
An audio-introduction and overview by NSDF Director Meggan Vickerd guides visitors on how to navigate the many sections within the website that include site maps, photos, reports, environmental assessment information and a video on water management.
Scheduled live chats have begun to allow site visitors a chance to provide feedback to NSDF team members.
“Typically at this time, we would have public sessions in the community,” said communications specialist Nicole LeBlanc.
She said COVID-19 caused them to look for a different approach at interacting with the community.
They are hosting two more sessions: one is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 21 between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. while the final session is taking place Friday, Oct. 23 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
If you missed the remaining live chats, LeBlanc said you could leave a message and that the team would get back to you.
CNL is proposing the construction of the NSDF to permanently dispose of the low-level radioactive waste that has been housed at the Chalk River site for many years.
