The Quyon Community Association (QCA) teamed up with the Quyon Lions Club to host their fourth annual Quyon Community Day on Saturday.
The event showcased eight hours of live music from Quyon-based groups, a three-pitch softball tournament, inflatable bouncy houses, a petting zoo, and more.
“This is bringing the community spirit back into our town,” said QCA member Brenda Clarke. “Donations keep coming in, everybody wants to support us and we use that to be able to put on a day like this free of charge.”
The QCA is made up of Clarke, Lindsay Hamilton, Laura Stewart, Christopher Provost, Luke Young, Melanie McCann Lang, and Caryl McCann. Quyon Lions Club president Eddie McCann took the time between sets to thank the coordinators behind the event.
“It just shows you the [quality] of the participation from the community [leading up to] the day,” he said.
“Everybody comes together,” Clarke said. “It may be a small village, but when the calls go out, everybody is there to support.”
Exciting additions to this year’s event were bouncy castles for the kids and fireworks to close out the night – the first in Quyon this summer as Canada Day’s were rained out. For Clarke, though, her favourite attraction of this year’s Community Day was a little less flashy.
“The Wall of Wonderful,” she exclaimed. Donations from various businesses in the Pontiac region were plastered on a green tarp. Attendees were able to buy tickets for two dollars for a chance to win one of the 116 available prizes.
The Lions Club’s roast beef dinner served the most meals of any year yet. According to Eddie McCann, roughly 250 tickets were sold, just beating last year’s 215.
