CHAPEAU July 13, 2019
On July 13, around 100 people from the Pontiac and beyond convened outside local chip-stand Trimmer’s on the side of Hwy. 148 in Chapeau to enjoy its delicious food and participate in fun filled activities in celebration of National French Fry Day.
Hosted by Trimmers, the event served as an opportunity for locals to celebrate the special occasion with some tasty fried treats and cool activities while raising funds for the town’s R.A..
According to Trimmer’s owner Cheryl Smith, the event never ceases to show her the community’s generosity and just how much it means to her business.
“It’s fantastic,” she said. “It’s a small community with a big heart and everybody comes out and supports. Small communities like this, we have to support each other for sure. It is really important.”
With tons of fun activities on hand, including a potato sack race, potato peeling competition and a french-fry eating contest to cap it all off , the event had no shortage of fry-filled festivities for those who attended.
Plus, with so much delicious greasy food to eat, from poutines, burgers and fresh sandwiches, everyone’s hunger was sufficiently satisfied, perhaps even too much in some cases.
For Smith, one of the most enjoyable aspects of hosting the event every year is seeing the smiles on children’s faces knowing that she’s making a positive contribution to the community.
“It’s always for a good cause,” she said. “And I love to see the kids come out and play the games.”
All proceeds from the event will be dedicated towards subsidizing future activities for the Chapeau R.A., Smith said.
