MUNICIPALITY OF PONTIAC Nov. 13, 2018
The Municipality of Pontiac has introduced a policy designed to lay out the rules regarding cannabis use for employees.
The municipality is implementing a zero tolerance approach for those who consume cannabis while on the job.
The policy states that it is forbidden for employees to consume drugs or alcohol during work hours.
The policy also forbids employees from possessing or selling drugs while at work.
For those who consume cannabis for medical purposes, they will have to inform the municipality immediately. The employee may be asked to provide prescription information, medical notes or any other supporting documents.

However, the municipality is under no obligation to accommodate the employee if the accommodation represents an undue hardship.
Employees who suffer from addiction issues related to drugs or alcohol must inform a manager at the municipality immediately. Those with addiction issues must demonstrate that he or she suffers from this addiction in order to qualify for accommodation measures.
Those with addiction issues will be directed to a detoxification and rehabilitation program. The municipality stresses that any employee seeking addiction services will remain confidential.
The municipality will use screening tests for employees suspected of performing duties while intoxicated, if they are involved in a serious accident or if they return to work after being treated for addiction issues.
