Members of the Vinton community were treated to a two-day long St. Patrick’s Day celebration at the Mickey Creek Golf Club over the weekend.
The event included a breakfast buffet both Saturday on Sunday mornings followed by live music at the restaurant from the afternoon into the evening.
“We’re celebrating St Paddy’s Day,” said Mandy Demers, front of house manager and head server at Mickey Creek Golf Club.
“We had a two-day event much as we did last year. The first day was a busy day and the second day was quieter.”
Saturday’s celebrations saw a . . .
lively party, with dozens packing into the bar to enjoy music from The 2 Paddys, a duo who share the first name Patrick and have been performing Canadian, Scottish and Irish folk songs together for over 25 years.
Although Sunday’s entertainment saw a smaller turnout than the day prior, there was still cause for celebration.
Raymond Shea, a local attending the St. Patrick’s Day event was also celebrating his 84th birthday.
“I’m turning 42 twice,” Shea said with a smile. “I thought it [the celebration] was all for me, but I’ll share it with him [St. Patrick].”
To celebrate, Paddy Kelly, one of The 2 Paddys present at the event on Sunday, took a minute from his regular tunes to sing Shea Happy Birthday with the help of the crowd.
Shea planned to attend the spaghetti supper fundraiser hosted at St. Joseph’s Manor in Campbell’s Bay afterwards to round out his birthday celebrations.
Robin Quinn, who has owned the golf course with her husband Rod for the past two years, said she enjoys the chance to get together and listen to some music while celebrating her husband’s Irish roots with family.
“Their roots are all Irish [ . . . ] I think for them too they just like being able to keep the tradition going.”
