Euchre aficionados descended upon the Baie Inn on Saturday, putting their luck to the test as they enjoyed an afternoon tournament in support of some local infrastructure.
Nearly $600 was raised by the Campbell’s Bay card sharks, as the Litchfield Leisure Committee (LLC) continues their fundraising for a new community play structure.

Kristin Morin, one fourth of the LLC, said last year’s euchre tournament proved to be a big hit, and so it was a given to host it again. Since it’s an easy enough game to learn, she explained, it’s fun for those both experienced and new to the rules.
Games started at 2 p.m., and after the final hand had been played, Merrill Hearty proved victor, and the bigger champ for donating his winnings back. Second prize went to Sonny Desjardin and third to Lorie Sauriol.
The lucky 50/50 winner was John Morin, who also donated his winnings back to the cause. This helped bring their total efforts for the day up to $586.
Kristin said the LLC has already chosen the play structure and their current efforts benefit this project at Litchfield Halte, with plans to fund another addition to this site.
Previously, the group helped afford their community a splash pad, which opened in Aug. 2017 after just a few months of fundraising. Now they’re also looking to add on a change room, to provide families privacy from others and the security cameras installed at the pad.
The reception to the splash pad has been great, said Kristin, and the committee is proud of how much it’s been used, especially with the heat of this past summer.
“I don’t live too far from it, so I’d scoot by to see and there’s been lots of people there,” she continued, on the pad’s use.
