Some residents of the Beechgrove community in the Municipality of Pontiac recently came across a dead animal dumping spot near chemin Mohr and the old rail line, with several different types of animals found on March 18 by one resident.

According to local farmer Blake Draper, the way that the animals had been disposed of led him to believe it was . . .

a single trapper who was responsible for the piles.

“We figure they’re a trapper because there was at least one coyote in the pile I could see that had been skinned, but then there was a couple of other coyotes that weren’t skinned that were also thrown into the ditch,” he explained.

In photos posted to Facebook and others viewed by THE EQUITY, animals that are visible in the pile include deer and coyotes, although there appear to be others as well.

Draper said that him and the other residents, including the woman who first noticed the spot due to her daily routine, had a rough idea of the timeline because of the spot’s proximity to the CN Rail bed that was occupied by the skidoo club until the snow began melting.

“It was noticed on the 18th of March and I was told that it probably hadn’t been there more than a day or two,” he said.

The woman who first found the pile asked not to be named, but she said that it was the first time there had been a pile of dead animals in that area. As of March 25, she said that the municipality had removed the pile.

However, both her and Draper said that the phenomenon was unfortunately common in other areas of the community.

Draper spoke with both the game warden and the MRC des Collines police about the incident, although all that could be done was removal of the pile.
