Imaginations were let loose Saturday afternoon, when young artists descended upon the Luskville Community Centre for craft time with Get Art.
Organized by the Parents of the Municipality of Pontiac, Get Art’s Tanya McCormick brought “Critter Creations” to the hall, allowing children to build whatever they could come up with out of simple materials.
McCormick explained that the craft session was meant to inspire the children’s creativity as they had free rein on whatever they wanted to bring to life. She had brought along a selection of materials, from felt to pipe cleaners, but also household items, like paper cups, to use as their building blocks.
“They’re going to see things in a different light as they let their imaginations run wild,” said McCormick.
After the group ran off a bit of steam by socializing in the community centre, the kids got straight to work. With nine registered that afternoon, and room for drop-ins to join, all manner of creation were possible.
On top of the inspiring their creative potentials for design, she hoped to encourage their ability to see uses for everyday items in their artistic ventures. As such, the simple act of adding googly eyes to paper cups could lead to grander potential as they continue to grow older.
In line with this lifelong lesson, McCormick added that she’d be leading Get Art’s adult workshop on March 31, creating interactive photo albums through 3D paper crafting and other materials.
