Right from the puck drop, the Pontiac Senior Comets had the Mont Laurier Montagnards on the run on Saturday night, as the Outaouais Senior A Hockey League game took over the Fort Coulonge arena.
But the action didn’t let up, as Pontiac hockey fans had all night to see their home team punish the visitors, sending them packing as the scoreboard would read 8-4 for the Comets by the night’s end.
Just two and a half minutes in, the Comets’ Kevin Soucie had the crowd on their feet as he fired one past the Mont Laurier goaltender, with assists from Zach Elliott and Louis-Philippe Carle.
Fourteen seconds later, those cheers would return as Comet Guillaume Grégoire dashed through the Montagnards’ defences, scoring their second goal with an assist from Matt Sarazin.
A few minutes later, Comet Mitchell Gibson would seal the night’s fate, scoring once unassisted and then a second time with help from Grégoire and Stéphane Paré.
Though the Montagnards wouldn’t give up the fight, even scoring twice in the last few minutes of the first period, the Comets continued the walloping all night.
Second period saw Comet Daniele Dissipio waste little time when he scored their fifth of the evening, assisted by Vincent Proulx. Grégoire scored his second for the night, assisted by Paré and Maxime Belley.
Finally, third period rolled around and with it, two more for the Comets. Proulx scored one assisted by Dissipio and Belley, before Paré chalked up his goal, assisted by Matt Romain.
This Saturday, the Comets will host the Maniwaki Forestiers in Fort Coulonge, with the puck dropping at 8 p.m. The next day, those two teams will face off once again, this time at the Centre Gino-Odjick in Maniwaki.
