Tunes were pouring out of the Pontiac Legion in Campbell’s Bay Saturday afternoon for its bi-weekly kitchen party, this one in celebration of Valentine’s Day.
“Everyone just shows up with their instruments,” said Legion secretary Joann Hearty. “Anyone can bring an instrument and play together.”
Among the musicians who showed up for a jam session was Angela Towell, who’s made a bit of a routine out of playing keys at the bi-weekly kitchen party.
“I play with my cousins and all the people there, they’re really great people,” she said, noting she started participating in the summer, not only on piano but also on guitar and accordion, and sometimes singing.
Hearty said the kitchen parties are among a handful of ways the Legion is raising money for needed renovations to the building. The Legion has also launched a new for-fun darts league as a fundraiser. It will run Mondays until May 4.
