Former Shawville councillor Katie Sharpe will be The Municipality of Bristol’s new director general and clerk-treasurer, starting Sept. 21. 

The appointment was approved at Bristol’s Sept. 8 council meeting, and announced in a post to the municipality’s website on Sept. 10.  

Mayor Valerie Twolan-Graham said the municipality interviewed three candidates for the position.

“Following a thorough recruitment and selection process, Council is confident that Katie’s experience, leadership and collaborative approach will be valuable assets as the municipality continues to strengthen its operations and deliver quality services to residents and visitors,” the announcement reads. 

Sharpe’s previous professional experience includes working with a global construction services and technology company coordinating special projects, administering facility services for the Renfrew County District School Board, and working as assistant director general for the Municipality of Shawville. She also served one term as Shawville councillor, first elected in 2021, and was reelected to her seat in Nov. 2025. 

“A Director General’s role is a very difficult one which integrates and balances the daily running of the operations of the municipality with the expectations and needs of our residents,” said Twolan-Graham in the announcement. 

“Both Katie’s diverse professional work experience and tenure as a municipal councillor will bring enormous benefits to our municipality.”

For her part, Sharpe said she is looking forward to beginning the new position.

Sharpe submitted her resignation from Shawville council on Sept. 2. 

“I am looking to pursue other different career opportunities that can help me continue to give back to the community,” she told THE EQUITY at the time.

Bristol’s director general position has been vacant since council dismissed longtime director general Christina Peck in May.
