Waltham residents of all ages gathered at the town’s Paul Ryan Park on Saturday for the town’s Summerfest – a day of community fun organized by the local recreation association. 

Among the activities on offer were a heated washer’s tournament that went most of the afternoon, fire truck tours hosted by Waltham firefighters on site, a climbing wall, face painting, and a bouncy castle. Around 4 p.m., volunteers fired up the barbecue, just as the evening’s first musician took to the stage. 

“We’re trying to get the community together, have a fun day where everyone is together and having fun,” said RA committee member Megan Kelly. 

“We don’t charge entry or anything because we want it to be really about just a sense of community.” 

She said the RA committee is fairly small right now, but still tries to host a Waltham Summerfest every two years. 

The RA also held a small fundraiser at the event, to support the maintenance work it does throughout the year. 

Kelly said while the committee hopes to one day be able to build a roof over the outdoor rink to help prolong the ice’s life span, this year the committee gave the rink boards a fresh coat of paint.
