After a Bristol man was killed and his wife injured in a New Brunswick car crash, their loved ones have started an online fundraiser.

According to an RCMP press release, the crash took place at 11:17 a.m. on Jan. 5, near Summerfield, N.B., claiming the life of John Knox and injuring his wife Betty.

“The crash is believed to have occurred when the vehicle lost control, left the roadway, and flipped onto its roof,” the report states. “The driver of the vehicle, a 77-year-old man, died at the scene as a result of his injuries. A passenger was transferred to hospital with minor injuries.”

A GoFundMe page set up by the family states that the couple were on their way home after celebrating the Christmas holiday. As of Monday morning, it stood at $3,400 out of a $12,000 goal.

“Our father was taken from us far too soon, and our mother is now in hospital with a long road to recovery ahead—both physically and emotionally,” the description states. “As we begin to navigate life without our dad (writing that is so hard), and face the uncertainty of our mother’s recovery, we’re trying to focus on healing by easing the financial burdens we know will come—travel expenses, time off work, and the aftermath of his untimely passing.”

THE EQUITY reached out to the family for further information but did not receive a response in time for print.
