The Bloc Québécois has named Suzanne Proulx, the party’s president, as its candidate for the Pontiac-Kitigan Zibi riding in the upcoming federal election.

Proulx, a resident of Ste-Agathe des-Monts, more than two hours east of Shawville, did not respond to THE EQUITY’s interview request.

According to a candidate biography posted on the Bloc Québécois website, she was elected to Quebec’s national assembly in the riding of Sainte-Rose in 2012 and served until 2014, and has been president of the Bloc Québecois for almost two years.

She has served as a parliamentary assistant to the provinical Minister of Immigration, as well as to the Minister of Employment and the Status of Women. She was also vice-chair of the health and social services commission.

Before politics, Proulx earned an MBA in collective entrepreneurship and has over 30 years of experience as director general in various industrial sectors including automotive, transportation, as well as local and regional economic development.
