Sûreté du Québec (SQ) police arrested a 21-year-old man from Montreal in Mansfield on Feb. 13 after he allegedly stole a vehicle in Waltham.

According to an SQ press release, police were called to a vehicle that had gone off the road in Waltham sometime around 1 p.m.. Upon their arrival, they met a person who said they had pulled over to assist a driver who had gone off the road, when said driver jumped in his idling car and took off, heading east on Highway 148.

The person whose vehicle was stolen was able to provide a detailed description of the suspect, according to the police press release. The suspect was arrested when police found him with the stolen vehicle on Chemin de la Passe near Chemin Léonard in Mansfield.

The suspect was brought into police custody and taken to the hospital to submit a blood sample. It was at this point that police were informed that the vehicle that had slid off the road near Waltham had been reported stolen by the Ontario Provincial Police.

The suspect was set to appear in court in Campbell’s Bay on Friday, Feb. 14, where he may have faced charges of theft of a vehicle, possession of stolen goods, possession of a stolen vehicle and theft of an identification card. He could also be facing additional charges of impaired driving following the results of the blood test.

Last week we reported a similar incident in which a truck of a Campbell’s Bay man was stolen by the driver of a car he had stopped to help. See https://tinyurl.com/yksyyeb9.
