Firefighters recognized with long-time service awards

At the Shawville-Clarendon Fire Department’s annual Christmas supper, two of its firefighters were recognized for the years of service they’ve dedicated to the department. Shawville mayor Bill McCleary and Clarendon mayor Edward Walsh presented Greg Hayes with a watch to honour the 25 years he’s been with the department, and Vaughan Bastien received a plaque for his 20 years of service. “It’s a good morale boost for a lot of them. They should be proud. Everybody should know they’ve served 20 years, or 25 years. That’s a lot of years,” Chief Lee Laframboise told THE EQUITY in the new year. “It’s a big commitment. I couldn’t begin to name how many times you didn’t get sleep or you were just going to eat. Family’s sacrificed a lot. That’s why it’s nice to recognize people when they get so many years.”
