Quyon – Jillian Young

Congratulations to Sydney McMurray, as she graduated with her Masters in Education from Ottawa U last week. Sydney is the daughter of Joanne (Stanley) and Brian McMurray, and granddaughter of Don and Beverley Stanley. Sydney’s family is very proud of her, what an accomplishment.

Last Thursday evening, I was thrilled to attend the opening night for Pontiac High’s production of In the Heights. It was an absolutely fantastic show. Kudos to all involved – from the actors right through to stage crew, and all who helped out in various ways. It takes commitment and many talents to put on a show like that. Well done to director Phil Holmes, and all of the students who participated. It was especially fun to see so many talented Quyon teens in the cast and crew.

Birthday wishes are going out to Ryan Barr on May 1, and to Debbie Earl on the 3rd. Happy 40th birthday to Caryl McCann-Cote, as she celebrates on May 4. We also have birthday wishes going out to Amanda MacKechnie on the 6th, and to Annabelle Fleck and Kelly Hajdu on the 7th. Blessings to all celebrating special occasions this week.

This past Sunday, Sensei Denis Renaud held a Black Belt grading at the Quyon Community Centre for the karate students who were eligible. Congratulations to Angie Pirie, Ashley Poisson, Emma Frobel, and Emma Patenaude who completed this difficult grading and received their Black Belts. This is a huge accomplishment. A special thank you to Sensei Denis Renaud and Sensei Brenda Clarke who have worked hard with these karate students every week to get them to this level. Their dedication to teaching karate classes to local students is greatly appreciated by many in our community.

On Wednesday afternoon, a birthday party was held in honour of Fay Leroy. It took place at her sister’s Lorna Turner’s. Everyone enjoyed an afternoon playing card games, good food, a lovely cake and drinks.

Bonnie Harkins celebrated her 60th birthday on Apr. 27 and my dear neighbour Gilda Heaney also celebrated the same day. We hope that you enjoyed your special day girls.

Birthday wishes and love is extended to our dear Michael, who is celebrating his birthday on May 2. We hope that the coming year will be filled with blessings of health, happiness, love, peace and joy.

The Waltham Fire Department accepted delivery of its recently repaired tanker fire truck. Issues with the tanker’s frame were identified in 2023 and, as such, several options were considered to deal with the repair or replacement of this vital piece of firefighting equipment. The decision was made to repair the 3,000 US gallon tanker fire truck in a truck repair center in Kemptville, ON that specializes in truck frame replacements and collusion repairs.
