The fourth annual Quyon Truck and Tractor Pull was held at the fairgrounds in Quyon on Saturday and, according to one of its organizers, it was a big success.

“It was a pretty good turnout, for sure,” Chris Davis told THE EQUITY.

Davis, along with Kerry-Lynn O’Connell, Paul Davis, Allan Emmerson and Angie Belsher, pulled the event together.

According to Davis, some 1,200 adult spectators paid $20 each to come through the gate, and 600 children under 12 were admitted for free.

There were from 60 to 70 participants, mostly from the Pontiac, with a few from Cantley and Chelsea, and others from Valleyfield, South Mountain and Smith Falls.

Davis was one of them. Driving The Heat Wave, an old Cockshutt farm tractor modified with a 555 cubic-inch engine, he won the Donnie Campbell Memorial Trophy in the Single Engine Modified Tractor class.

The trophy is given in honour of the late Donnie Campbell, described by Davis as “a very popular tractor puller in the ‘80s,” along with other previous organizers or people who have been part of the event.

Dwayne Newans from North Augusta, Ontario won the Wendy Desabrais Memorial Plaque in the Open Modified 7500 class.

“It’s really a way for us to give back, to bring something fun that’s exciting for the community,” Davis said. “We’re non-profit, don’t want to make any money, we want to roll whatever we make back into it. We want it to be a family event, for all ages.”
