The fire departments of both Shawville-Clarendon and Campbell’s Bay-Litchfield held their firefighter balls on Saturday evening.
Both events were held after a two-year covid hiatus, which prevented many service awards from being given out until now.
The Shawville-Clarendon Firemen’s Ball was all at the Shawville Agricultural Hall and featured a catered dinner and a musical performance by The Young Bucks.
The Campbell’s Bay-Litchfield Fire Department held their event at the Campbell’s Bay RA Hall, also featured a catered dinner and musical performance by the band REWD ft. Louis Schryer. The ball was emcee’d by Chanelle Shea.
During his remarks, Chief of Shawville-Clarendon Fire Department Lee Laframboise made a special mention for the longest-serving firefighter Blake Pirie, who was unable to attend the ball due to an ongoing battle with pancreatic cancer. A donation boot was put out during the ball for Blake with the total amount of funds raised matched by the department. Anyone willing to contribute to Blake’s fund can contact Lee Laframboise.
A special Firefighter of the Year award was presented for the first time at the Campbell’s Bay ball. The award was created in honour of the Campbell’s Bay/Litchfield firefighters who passed away over the last four years including Maurice Beauregard, Todd Vibert Junior and Keith Racine.
The new Firefighter of the Year trophy replaced the Charlie Burke Memorial trophy, which was given out to Campbell’s Bay-Litchfield firefighters for 25 years.
It was also announced Campbell’s Bay and Litchfield had succeeded in their application for funds from the provincial government to build a new fire hall. The grant will cover 95 per cent of the cost of the new hall. Details to follow.
