The Thorne Community Recreation Association (TCRA) has received a grant from the Farm Credit Canada (FCC), a crown corporation under the federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, to refurbish its building.

The money comes from FCC’s Agrispirit Fund, which . . .

provides capital to projects across Canada in communities with less than 150,000 people and can include projects like refrigeration and equipment to support food waste reduction and recovery; construction of or upgrades to community buildings; renovations or upgrades that reduce a building’s energy footprint and initiatives that support agriculture and food.

“The Farm Credit Canada Agrispirit Fund partnered with individuals and groups who are committing their time and energy for the purpose of bettering their rural communities,” wrote Susan Ouimet, who works with the TCRA.

According to Ouimet, the TCRA received a grant of $25,000 from the fund to help replace windows and reduce heating costs of the building.

The grant almost covered the entire cost of the project, though the Municipality of Thorne also made a small contribution, said Ouimet

The installation of the windows was delayed due to covid and was completed last spring.
