Jill McBane presented Shawville councillor Richard Armitage with a donation to the Shawville Sidewalk Lighting project. The donation is on behalf of the Shop Shawville member businesses and funds were raised from the street market proceeds. A total of $1,745 was added to a previous Shop Shawville donation of $240 for a total of $1,985 given towards decorative lamp posts and solar street lighting. Jill spear-headed the idea of having nice decorative lighting for Main Street and brought the idea to Shawville municipality. According to Armitage, the town’s grant application has not been approved at this time, but MRC Pontac has acknowledged receiving the complete file and that it meets the downtown beautification program requirements. However, with final approval, the grant should cover up to 80 per cent of total costs, says Armitage. According to Jill, fundraising will continue towards this project through the street markets and she aims to see it completed.
