As part of a nationwide redrawing of electoral boundaries, Elections Canada is proposing changing the borders of the federal riding of Pontiac.

The Electoral Commission of Quebec is proposing moving ridings boundary to the . . .

east, by transferring municipalities like Gracefield, Kazabazua, Low, La Pêche, Déléage, and Grand Remous, among others, to the Laurentides riding. Val-des-Monts would be transferred to Argenteuil–La Petite-Nation from the Pontiac riding.

It is also proposed that the official name of the riding would change from Pontiac to Pontiac-Kitigan Zibi. The name of Pontiac riding is only as old as 2003, and before then was it Pontiac-Gatineau-Labelle.

The population of the new riding would be 104,966 based on 2021 population numbers.

The change of the federal riding will not affect the boundaries of the provincial riding, as unlike Ontario, Quebec doesn’t automatically match federal and provincial ridings.

The Electoral Commission of Quebec is holding public consultations in-person across the province and virtually on both the proposed boundaries and names of the ridings, which you can sign up for before August 31 at Reistribution2022.ca.
