Jane Toller was sworn in for her second mandate as Pontiac warden in a brief ceremony convened by Bernard Roy, Director General of MRC Pontiac at the MRC offices in Campbell’s Bay late Monday afternoon.
In her comments to the approximately one . . .
dozen supporters of her campaign in attendance, Ms. Toller noted a number of pressing concerns in the MRC, including Bill 96, the closure of the obstetrics department at the hospital and the need for decentralization of health care.
She said she hoped the incoming mayors’ council, which will be composed of nine new and nine returning mayors, will put its energy behind the Energy From Waste project which, she says, will create 50 new Pontiac jobs.
“I want to make their priorities my priorities. It is my hope that we’ll all move forward together, all paddling in the same direction,” she said.
Toller mentioned that in her door-to-door campaign, one issue that repeatedly came up was the need for revitalization of the forestry industry in the Pontiac, which she said is showing hopeful signs.
As DG of the MRC, M. Roy served as president of the election for warden. In his comments at the swearing-in ceremony, he said that it is not mandatory, but it is important to recognize the election of the warden, “an important job with and important mandate.”
Roy confirmed the final tally of votes in the warden election at 3301 for Jane Toller and 2964 for Mike McCrank.
Toller took the opportunity to congratulate Mike McCrank for a well-run campaign.
“He did a lot of door-knocking,” she said, “I hope he will continue to stay involved in the Pontiac.”
The ceremony took place in the Elsie Gibbons conference room at in the MRC offices, where forty-five photos of former Pontiac warders on the wall formed a backdrop to the event, of which one was the image of Ms. Toller’s great great grandfather, George Bryson.
