Dear Editor,
It has recently come to my attention that a member of the CCU (Planning and Advisory Committee — responsible for providing information on minor derogations and CPTAQ file) is stating untrue and misleading comments about me to the general public.
The bylaw pertaining to CCU members states that . . .
“members must not damage the reputation of the committee and the municipal council” and “members must show respect and courtesy in their dealings with other members, municipal employees and members of municipal council.”
Said person, who is likely to be a candidate in the upcoming election has said that I have moved to Shawville and should not be on council as I don’t live in the municipality. Instead of spreading rumours and untruths, the person only had to contact me to get the truth.
I am well aware of my Code of Ethics and Municipal Code. I am still a resident in the Municipality of Pontiac and shall continue to do my best for the residents of the municipality. If I decide to move to another municipality then at that time, I will do the proper thing and resign and let my constituents know what I am doing.
While there has been recent activity by the government for social media statements and anger towards current councils, there has not been any thought to the rumours and untruths that are spread by those looking to get elected in this year’s election.
I am not quite sure what the next step will be but hopes that the municipality invokes the sanctions of its bylaw. I want all those who vote to ensure that they are aware of the people that they are voting in as that is who will represent them for the next four years. If you want someone who spreads rumours and does not tell the truth then it is your choice.
Nancy Maxsom,
Councillor, Municipality of Pontiac
