With blue skies shining above, the sound of aluminum walloping baseballs echoed from the ball . . .

diamond in Bryson as the annual Bryson RA 3-pitch tournament got underway.

The tournament featured 14 teams in two divisions with each team playing at least three games.

The event serves as an opportunity for residents to get out and put their money towards a good cause — not to mention squeeze the last few drops out of the summer weather before it’s gone for another year.

“It’s definitely better than rain,” laughed Wanda Lance, a member of the RA.

Lance said that this year’s weather was especially refreshing when compared to last year’s.

“It was freezing,” she said.

With the hot weather came the cold beverages. And with cold beverages came loud music and a bit of a party atmosphere at the park.

While some of the games were noticeably competitive while play was going on, the high fives exchanged between teams at the end of each game highlighted the friendly nature of the competition.

The tournament has been going on for nearly a decade and raises thousands each year that goes back into the RA.

For instance, last year’s funds went to replacing the outdoor rink boards. Instead of plywood that has trouble holding up under the constant barrage of slapshots, the RA opted for actual rink boards, which have a much longer lifespan but cost more.
