CAMPBELL’S BAY

Sept. 13, 2019

Over 40 local residents gathered at CPE Picabou child care centre in Campbell’s Bay for a fun filled . . .

corn on the cob cookout, celebrating the facility’s 25-year anniversary.

Open to the entire community, the event featured a number of entertainment avenues and delicious foods for folks of all ages to enjoy.

Along with hundreds of steaming corncobs being dished out throughout the event, groups of volunteers also doled out plenty of hot dogs, icy snow cones and cold beverages to keep all the hungry and thirsty attendees satisfied.

With loud pop music blaring through the large speakers on site, dozens of kids jumped around in the two large bouncy castles provided by Maison des Jeunes du Pontiac, while others got their faces painted by local artist Maena Bilodeau.

After feasting on loads of corn and hot dogs for supper, attendees who still had room in their stomachs indulged on some delicious birthday cake for dessert.

The daycare’s Assistant Director Sally Stewart explained that putting on a corn roast at this time of year was ideal way of getting people together.

“It was easy and it’s something everybody kind of likes,” she said. “We’re in the fall. Corn is in season. We thought that that would be the easiest thing for everybody.”

Having worked at the facility for as long as it has been in operation, Stewart said that the event served as a thank you to everyone who has supported the daycare over its quarter century run.

“It’s a way to give back to the parents who have followed us all the way through,” she said. “Some parents have two-three kids so they spend a lot of years with us.”

Drawing a fairly large crowd for the celebration, Stewart was quite delighted with the community’s response to the party invitation.

“It’s fantastic,” she said. “More than what I expected. I was hoping for this much, but I thought if we got half our parents, we’d be okay.”
