Congratulations to Grandpa Bill and Grandma Heather Kennedy on the birth of their first grandchild, a boy named . . .

Joseph Allan Tieszen on Sept. 9. Best wishes to the new parents, Amanda and Peter.

Meghan (Scott) and Mike Olmstead have also welcomed a new baby girl born on Sept. 11. They named her Callie Brianne and she is a little sister for Evelyn. Proud grandparents are Eddy and Nancy Scott and Brian Olmstead. Congratulations to the whole family.

On Sept. 14, family and friends gathered at the Quyon Legion to celebrate the retirement of The Ferryman, Don McColgan. This past year, Don passed the reins of the Quyon Ferry on to his son Ralph and nephew Eddie and has spent this season helping them with the transition. It was a great opportunity for the community to come out and congratulate Don and his wife Ruby on their many years of operating the Quyon Ferry, and also to wish Ralph and Eddie well as they keep the business in the family name. Enjoy your retirement Don.

Jayden, Mason and Keira would like to wish their Grandma Suzanne Cheslock a happy 60th birthday today.

We also have birthday wishes going out to Bart Stanley on Sept. 19, to Rob Fraser on Sept. 20, to Charlotte Dowe on Sept. 21, to Tiffany Young on Sept. 22 and to Jeff Campbell on Sept. 23. Wishing you all a wonderful day!

I apologize for the lack of reports this summer on the Quyon Flyers men’s fastball team. They have been playing their home games out of Shawville this year and once again had a successful season in the Greater Ottawa Fastball League. They have just completed their first round of playoffs defeating the Stittsville 56ers in their best-of-3, two games to none. At the time of writing this column they were still waiting to hear who their next opponent would be. Good luck to the Flyers as they continue in the playoffs.
