The results to a survey asking Pontiac residents how nature improves their lives are in and the PhD candidate responsible for it hopes the results can be used in future land planning.
The survey, spearheaded by Dalal Hanna, a PhD candidate at McGill University, asked Pontiac residents how they enjoy nature.
The survey focused mainly on the geography of the Municipality of Pontiac and Bristol. Anyone who has spent time in these locations – not just residents – could fill out the survey.

In total, 36 people responded to the survey. Those who responded came from several different groups including recreational users, hunters, farmers, friends of Chats Falls and residents.
Respondents listed 75 different ways that nature contributes to their well-being. Some of the main words used by survey respondents included things like hiking, water, observation and education.
Hanna will be organizing a meeting with local stakeholders and community members to develop strategies that will improve people’s connections with nature.
The event will be held at the Burt Kennedy Centre in Quyon on Feb. 19 between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. A free lunch will be served.
Those interested in attending can contact Hanna at 514-318-6332 by Jan. 28.
