On Dec. 15 the Lions traveled to Gatineau to face off against the Remparts. The Lions came out of the gate flying and midway through the first, Vincent Gilbert scored on a nice move, set up perfectly by Maxim Letang and Grayson Kilroy. Two short minutes later Mathis Lafontaine snapped one past the goalie for a 2-0 lead assisted by Maxim Renaud. Towards the end of the first Taytum Thompson won the face off clean back to Will O’Malley to fire it past the goaltender for a 3-0 lead.
Gatineau managed to get one back at the end of the first period. After two more periods of strong play and several great chances the game ended in a 3-1 win for the Lions.

On Dec. 16 they were back in action in Hull against the Aylmer Icebergs. Again Vincent Gilbert got the Lions started with a breakaway goal early in the first assisted by Grayson Kilroy. Aylmer answered right back with two of their own. Garrett Rusenstrom made a nice pass to Mathis Lafontaine to send him in on a partial break and he buried it to tie it up at two. On a nice play to the side of the net, Lafontaine scored his second of the game putting the Lions up. Seconds later Aylmer tied it up. It was a back and forth battle for the first period.
In the second period the Lions turned up the intensity getting a goal from Andrew Kavanagh assisted by Letang. Lafontaine got his hat trick goal on a great back hand move in tight. Lafontaine then scored his fourth of the game in the third period. The Lions smothered out any attempts by Aylmer to get back into the game. These two games were solid team wins and it started with our goalies Zachary Brousseau and Jaxson Armstrong.
On Dec. 22, the Lions faced off against the Aylmer Extremes. The game started out at a high pace with action at both ends of the rink. Brousseau had an excellent game stopping every shot he faced. Gilbert opened up the scoring midway through the first period on a nice pass from Letang and Kilroy. Garrett Rusenstrom put the Lions up 2-0 in the second period on a feed from Pierce Rusenstrom.
Rusenstrom scored his second goal early in the third and Kilroy scored an empty net goal assisted by Thompson to finish the game. Armstrong had another strong finish to the game stopping every shot he faced as well. Chase Wittig-Thompson, Ryan Barr and Gibson Lang worked hard in all three games supporting our goalies in the defensive end. A great way to finish 2018.

Pontiac Lions Novice B
When you’ve got hockey on your mind, all of life’s other hockey seems to hockey into hockey hockey.
On Jan. 5 the Novice B team was up and at it before the sun was up for the Westmeath tournament. The rink was freezing but the boys were on fire winning their first three games. This took them to the finals where they remained undefeated and took home the gold.
It didn’t stop there for the Lions as they played again on Jan. 6, in Aylmer where they continued their winning streak with a 4-2 win.
