The holidays are right around the corner and with it are plenty of local celebrations, events, and fun to take part in. Much of the excitement every year comes from taking the time to enjoy everything the season has to offer, with family, friends, and neighbours.
This year, Shawville will be celebrating it’s 20th anniversary of the tree lighting ceremony on Friday, complete with carollers and a procession through town to Veteran’s Memorial Park. Starting at New Hope Christian Fellowship at 6:30 p.m., everyone is welcome to join in on spreading cheer before the big ceremony when the tree lighting will help usher in the Christmas season.

Saturday evening will see the town lit up bright, as the Parade of Lights rolls through downtown. Starting at 7 p.m. on Rectory Road, the parade will feature floats designed by many local businesses, plus the arrival of the jolly man in red.
Wrapping up at the Shawville Arena, guests and participants will then get to end the evening by hanging out with Santa Claus, before he heads back to the North Pole.
So why let all the hassle and frustration of shopping get in the way of the holiday spirit? Especially when there’s so much shopping to be done right in town.
In celebration of Black Friday, many local vendors have offered special deals to be found only at these Shawville shops. From discounts through to free gifts, plus eateries expanding into their Christmas menus, there’s plenty of reason to shop local this coming weekend, before enjoying all the nights have to offer.
As well, Saturday will see Chez In and Billy T’s serving right on Main Street during the parade, so hungry shoppers and those enjoying the parade never have to stray from the fun.
During the parade watch for local businesses with treats and surprises.
