Though most of the elves are already busy prepping for the big night, the jolly man himself made an early appearance in Quyon for Onslow Elementary School’s 10th annual Christmas Craft Show.
With over 40 vendors on display, the Saturday show saw huge amounts of continued support from the community as the parking lot overflowed with cars and Onslow’s Home and School Committee quickly ran out of the hot lunch sold every year.
Committee president Stacy Johnston said that since the school has afforded and installed the new playground, which was the previous recipient of the show’s fundraising efforts, this year’s will benefit the teachers’ wish list and trips for the students.

The wish list could consist of items for the classroom or other updates that will help them out, Johnston explained, while students can look forward to their mid- and end-year trips to as yet undetermined spots. To help afford their own grad trip, grade 6 students were also in charge of a 50/50 draw and selling used books.
On display this year were many local vendors, showing everything from stained glass and knitted creations to preserves, soaps, and a huge range of finger puppets.
One guest to the show, Gail Robertson, said she travels up from Windsor, Ont., every year to attend. Coinciding with a visit to her aunt, Mary Brouse, she flies from Windsor into Toronto, before flying to Ottawa to make her way up.
Of course, the big highlight for many of the youngest attendees was the man in red, who can boast the furthest distance travelled to join the fun. Santa Claus had a classroom all to himself this year, where many got a chance to get their wishes to him early.
