The Quyon Family Centre held their annual Harvest Supper last weekend, gathering local families for a community meal while supporting a charity that helps many in the Pontiac.
Seeing upwards of 100 guests on Saturday night, the community hub served up salad, spaghetti and plenty of desserts, greatly exceeding their fundraising goals in support of the Snowsuit Fund.
“There’s lots of families who need it in this area,” said Ashley Carson, president of the centre’s board, of supporting the fund. “We want to make sure all the kids are warm.”
Carson was quick to tout that the local businesses have continued to support their efforts, donating as much food and raffle prizes as they could. All the meat, veggies and many other dinner portions were provided by local farmers, helping to keep the meal as affordable as possible to the centre, and allowing for a better donation to the fund.
As well, more than 25 raffle prizes were distributed, ranging from gift cards and books to clothing and cooking items. A number of items were also included in a silent auction.
Families arrived early for the meal, with many children waiting patiently or playing with friends as dinner preparations wrapped up.
Still, there were those excited children eyeing down the dessert table, tempting their sweet tooth before dinner with the selection of pies and cupcakes on display.
