We are now welcoming the beautiful fall season, with its annual display of panoramic colours and cooler weather. The apple trees are dropping their ripe fruit to be collected for all kinds of apple treats and preserves. Hunters are preparing for the annual moose hunt as we bid farewell to summer. The seasons come and go and we adapt to each change and there is always something to look forward to in the coming days, a birthday, making a new friend or renewing an old friendship, the birth of a child or the wisdom of an elder.
This past week, we experienced fierce weather, high winds, rain and for some the destruction of their homes and businesses.
The town of Waltham was spared but hydro electricity was lost in some sections for days. This resulted in the hum of generators which could be heard along some portions of rue Principale and Chemin du Traversier as residents plugged in to maintain their refrigerators and freezers. However, in spite of the inconveniences and challenges, family and friends got together and enjoyed sharing home and comforts with the temporarily homeless who await the return of our hydro.
Some areas were not so fortunate, as a devastating tornado ripped through Luskville, Ottawa, Gatineau, Dunrobin and many outlying areas. Many of these residents have been displaced and their homes have severe damage or have been totally destroyed. Current news reports do not list any fatalities however there have been some reports of serious injuries. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they face a long road ahead to rebuild their lives.
A cheery hello is extended to Elizabeth Ethier ( Aunt Libby) who is presently in the hospital. Thoughts, prayers and love are sent from family and friends.
Karine Chenier is celebrating a birthday today. Enjoy your special day Karine.
As the heating season approaches, the Waltham fire services urges residents heating with wood burning stoves and furnaces to have your chimney cleaned and inspected before you start to use these appliances. Fall is also a good time to check your smoke alarms and replace the batteries in the battery operated models.
