The men’s Quyon Flyers’ season came to a close last week, as they lost their best-of-3 playoff series to the Ottawa Valley A’s. The Valley A’s took the first game on Aug. 31 winning 4-2 in Quyon but the Flyers rebounded in their game on Sept. 6, winning it 8-0 in Carp, Ont. The deciding game was played in Quyon on Sept. 7 and it was very close, with Valley winning 5-4 in an extra inning and advancing to the next round.

Congratulations to Sandy Turcotte from Quyon. She was the big winner of the trip to Mexico from Uniprix Pharmacy Ahmad Hassan in Shawville last week. The contest has been on-going for months with customers being able to enter their names in the draw. What a lucky lady!
On Saturday, we attended a surprise party at Chris and Kara Provost’s in honour of Michel Provost’s upcoming 40th birthday. Family and friends gathered to celebrate with Mitch, enjoying beautiful weather, drinks, games, and a barbeque supper as well as an amazing cake made by his cousin Natasha. Everyone had a terrific time.
Belated birthday wishes are going out to Brooklyn and Carson Barr, as they turned one on Sept. 9 and also to their grandpa Abby McBane, as he celebrated on Sept. 10.
Happy 25th birthday to Cassandra McKay on Sept. 14 with love from Mom, Char, and Poppa Bruce. Cass has recently moved home after spending five years living up north and her family is happy to have her back. Birthday wishes are also going out to Poppa Bruce celebrating on Sept. 20. Happy birthday also to Enjolie Provost also on Sept. 20. Best wishes to everyone marking a special occasion this week.
Sympathy is extended to the family of Ronnie Trudeau, who passed away on Sept. 4. Our thoughts are also with the family of Brian Stanton, who passed away on Sept. 7. Prayers are with all who are grieving at this sad time.
Congratulations to former Quyon girl Elizabeth Jones, who won the Ottawa Idol singing competition this past Sunday at the Villa Lucia Supper Club. Elizabeth’s prizes include 20 hours of local studio time and a trip to Santa Monica, Calif., where she will have the opportunity to record an original song. She will also get an audition to sing the anthem before an Ottawa Senators game for the upcoming season. Way to go Elizabeth.
A reminder to Quyon folks that this coming Sunday, is the annual Terry Fox Run in Shawville. I hope many turn out at Pontiac High School for the 2 p.m start time as it is such an important cause. The Pontiac High Student Run is also coming up on Sept. 21. Be sure to show your support and take part in honour of one of our country’s most beloved heroes.
