An 18-year-old man from Shawville has died following a collision on Highway 17 in Renfrew County early the morning of Friday, Dec. 13, according to a press release from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

“At approximately 5:30 a.m., Renfrew OPP attended a collision involving a car and a transport truck on Highway 17 at Storyland Road,” the statement from OPP media officer Const. Brianna Babin says. The driver was transported to hospital for life-threatening injuries where he was later pronounced dead, according to the statement.

In a phone call on Monday, OPP Media Relations Coordinator Bill Dickson said the OPP is continuing to investigate.

“The collision reconstructionists are investigating the incident,” he said. “We owe it to the family of the person who died.”

This fatal accident occurred just over 12 hours after a first fatal single-vehicle collision, also on Highway 17 near Arnprior, Ont.

The OPP arrived at the scene of this first collision at approximately 4:30 p.m. on the afternoon of Dec. 12.

The driver of the vehicle, a 31-year-old male from Ottawa, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Const. Babin said on Monday afternoon that there are no further updates, and the cause of the incident is being investigated.
