Waltham is a small community, with a long history of its citizens working together to support their neighbours and celebrate feelings of caring. This is also true of the Pontiac in general. Occasionally, an event or opportunity arises and shines a light on an aspect of rural community life. This makes everyone feel proud of our communities and of volunteers who contribute so much compassion and energy to their local communities. This was the situation this past Mar. 3. Two local residents, one from Allumettes Island and the other from Waltham were presented with a King Charles III coronation medal as recognition of years of behind the scenes work, on behalf of their respective communities. Gene O’Brien and Rhonda Perry were the recipients of this unexpected honour. Congratulation to both of these remarkably generous ladies. It is well deserved and you make us all very proud.
Pembroke and the Ottawa Valley were shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Jamie Stuart Bramburger of Pembroke. He was the beloved husband of Barb (nee McDonald). Jamie was the long-time manager of community and student affairs and current Interm Dean of Algonquin College’s Pembroke Campus. Jamie was actively involved and held many positions in the Pembroke community He was a former radio broadcaster and a passionate broadcaster on community television and served as a play-by-play voice for the Pembroke Lumber Kings. He was also a historian. He will be truly missed. Our heartfelt sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with his wife Barb, family and friends at this most difficult time.
