I am quite surprised to see how many people read my column. A few weeks ago I mentioned that I was trying to show my daughter how to crochet and that I needed some wool. The next thing you know some neighbours brought wool and crochet books over and a lovely lady from Shawville, Marion Musgrove who does not know me at all, gave me two big bags of wool. My daughter and I really want to thank you for all your generosity.

On Easter weekend, my cousin Bob Mayhew and his girlfriend Rachel from Oshawa, Ont. arrived on Friday at 3 p.m. Bruce Hodgins and Sharon Crawford came that evening and we enjoyed a great night together. I would like to thank Doug and Reuben Hodgins for the lovely chocolates. I’m sure you deserve something in return.

On Saturday of Easter weekend Bob, Rachel and I went to visit Bob’s mother Betty Mayhew and Gilbert Sparling in Otter Lake. We had a fantastic beef supper there and spent the night.

I want to send out congratulations to Amanda Hearty and Eric Bertrand who got married recently.

The osprey have come back in the last couple of weeks and are nesting in front of Doc Chretien’s house.

Animal Aide Pontiac will be hosting a Mother’s Day tea and luncheon on May 10. from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge in Shawville. They will also be having a dress sale and bake sale. Please come out and support a great cause. For those of you who like the Watkins products we have a new representative Campbell’s Bay, Lise Bellefeuille. She will be at the art and craft and bake sale on May 11 at the Lions Club Hall in Campbell Bay. This is going to be a fantastic sale held the day before Mother’s Day, so you can buy mom a wonderful gift. We will be featuring many different vendors. There’s going to be paintings, plants, homemade chocolates, fun signs, jewellery, baked goods and artwork in many different forms.

I had to go to Braeside, Ont. on Saturday. I went by Sand Point and along the River Road going to Braeside. What I saw was devestating. Beautiful homes were being destroyed by the river.

On Sunday, I had to go to Pembroke, Ont. It was sickening to see what the flooding was doing in Fort Coulonge and Mansfield and everywhere along the Ottawa River. Bowers Restaurant is totally surrounded by water and so is the BMR store.

The water was closing in on both sides of the highway going through this area. It is hard to believe how much devastation is happening beyond what we can’t see from the highway. God bless all of the flood victims.

My son-in-law, Carl Davidson works for Bracebridge Hydro. Bracebridge is under a state of emergency now and they are afraid of losing the power plant. He has been working nonstop in the last couple of weeks trying to help prevent any worse disaster from happening but it is a losing battle. Mother nature is conquering.

I would like to send out my deepest sympathy to my cousin, Louise Racine on the loss of her husband Steve Hill who left us on April 23. A gentle soul taken too soon.

On April 28 they decided to close the Chaudiere bridge in Hull. Flood levels are way above the 2017 flood and still expected to rise even more in the next couple of days.

Timmy Hearty fought a long, hard battle with the river trying to save his home in Vinton with the fast rising water and the high winds he lost his fight on Saturday. This is so sad to see and hear. There are no words.
