My sister, Norma, just asked me to clean out her freezer and that’s when the bake-a-thon began. I found a lot of blueberries and raspberries so I started making pies. Then her neighbours started giving her plums and apples and we couldn’t let them go to waste, so I made 26 bottles of hot red pepper jelly, six jars of plum chutney, seven jars of plum/raspberry jam, nine blueberry and three raspberry pies. I also made 31 apple pies and 30 turkey pot pies. Now she has to buy another freezer.
It rained most of the week so it kept me busy. They really needed the rain in B.C. to put out and control the fires. Yesterday, I actually saw a rainbow that had a purple/violet strip in it. It was an extremely bright and distinctive, colourful rainbow. This coming week it is supposed to be sunny all week.
What a crazy week in the Ottawa Valley. Who would ever think we’d get a real tornado here in Canada. I’ve been hearing all kinds of stories from friends and family. As far as I know none of my relatives were affected too much except for no hydro which, compared to what others lost is a minor inconvenience. It’s hard to believe that no one lost their life. I’ve been watching the news and seeing how everyone is helping out in all sorts of different ways. It’s so nice to know that there is so much compassion towards our fellow man.
I would like to send out my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Neil Narlock who passed away Sept. 19, at the age of 68 years old. Funeral service will be conducted at St. James Anglican Church, Otter Lake, Que. on Wednesday, at 11 a.m. Interment parish cemetery.
