I had my grandson, Tao, from Bracebridge, Ont. visit me before he started his first day of high school after the long weekend. I drove to Port Carling the week before to pick him up and we got back on Sunday. He wanted to help me get my wood piled. He is 14-years-old and quite the little man. He actually piled the whole 15 cords of wood with a little help. I was quite proud of him because he knew how to stack the wood properly.
On Aug. 27, I attended the funeral for Linda McCoshen Berubé held at St. Elizabeth Church in Vinton. I want to extend my heartfelt sympathy to the entire McCoshen and Berubé family.
I dropped Tao off at his other grandmother Theresa Davidson’s in Campbell’s Bay and he had a great visit with her. Unfortunately Theresa wasn’t feeling too good so she wasn’t able to join us at my place. She was really disappointed that she wasn’t able to enjoy her grandson’s company but maybe next time. Theresa however started recuperating around Friday and is on the mend.
Thursday night, Ayden Beauregard came over and had a sleepover with Tao and the next day I drove the boys and Rowan to the Shawville Fair. You should have heard them talking about all the things they were going to do at the fair. And then they started describing all the rides and how people got sick on them and well, you get the picture. I finally had to tell him to stop talking about it because they were making me sick. I picked them up at 6 p.m. The two older boys were quite happy to come home and were very quiet but Ayden was still full of energy. It was a quieter trip home. Tao had bought me a candy apple which was very sweet of him.
Friday night, my cousin Bobby Mayhew and his girlfriend Rachel Beausoliel, from Oshawa, Ont. arrived at my place a little after 8 p.m. I had made a beef Wellington with baked potatoes and honey glazed carrots and strawberry shortcake for dessert. It was the first time I have ever made beef Wellington and it was so delicious the beef just melted in your mouth. It was time consuming but not hard to make.
The following morning, Bob and Rachel had breakfast and then went to visit Bob’s mother Betty and her boyfriend Gilbert in Otter Lake. Tao and I got ready to head back to Port Carling. Sharon Crawford came with us and we had a great trip, stopping in Barry’s Bay, Ont. to see some of the shops. We had a picnic just before Algonguin Park. Shelly, Carl and Corben were sure happy to see us.
On Sunday, Corben, Sharon and I drove to Parry Sound, Ont. and went on the Island Queen cruise ship on Georgian Bay. It was a three hour tour and it brought us through such narrow channels that you could almost touch the trees and rocks on either side of the ship. It has more than 30,000 islands but of course we didn’t get to see all of them. Each island is considered to be an island if it is at least one acre in size and we saw hundreds that were a lot smaller than that. Can you imagine how hard it is to navigate in those kind of waters, especially this large ship.
We returned home about 5 p.m. and were treated to a steak and lobster supper that Carl and Tao had cooked.
On Monday, Sharon and I left about noon and visited some little shops in Port Carling, Ont. and headed home. It was the end of a great long weekend.
I would like to send out my condolences to the family of Percy Stewart who passed away on Sept. 2 in his 68th year.
Happy belated birthday wishes to Jason Morin on Sept. 5, Neil Desjardins, Kathy Lepack on Sept. 8, and to Keith and Karen Sauriol on Sept. 9.
Happy anniversary to Brian and Kim McCoshen on Sept. 6 and Colleen and Brian Hewitson on Sept. 8, and to Patty and Guy Normandeau on Sept. 10.
I see that the family of Ospreys have left their nest for the season. As far as I could make out, they had two offspring this year.
I would like to send out my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Nancy Mayhew who passed away Sept 7.
My sister, Norma called me on Sept 5 and invited me to go out to spend some time with her in B.C. I told her I couldn’t afford the plane ticket and she said that she was buying it for me. How could I say no? But that left me a day and a half hour to prepare myself and get things organized at home. What a rush. My cousin Steve Mayhew came down to help me and he took me to the airport Friday morning.
A few things went wrong. First of all I was all packed at home and bringing down my luggage from upstairs when a wheel broke off and I had to hurry and change suitcases. Then, when I got to the airport my plane was delayed two hours which made me miss my connection in Calgary. I had to wait another three hours and finally arrived in Abbotsford at 4:30 p.m. which is 7:30 p.m. our time. But I arrived safe and sound and that’s all that matters.
So very sorry to hear about Jimmy Newton who had a bad accident. They have started a go fund me page so please help. Go to https://www.gofundme.com/3rczks-help-Jim
